Wild Sierra Mustangs
For nearly seven years, Blake DeBock has photographed the wild horses of California’s Eastern Sierra, following the Montgomery Pass herd through Adobe Valley, Mono Lake, and the remote landscapes they call home.
It was here that Blake developed a style entirely his own, wide-angle, atmospheric, and immersive. Entire herds move through sweeping light and dramatic skies, photographed with the same depth, scale, and reverence as the vast landscapes surrounding them.
Wild horses have rarely been seen this way.
Today, in 2026 as a major federal roundup began removing hundreds of horses from this herd, scenes Blake had spent years photographing suddenly became uncertain.
This collection is a record of what ran free here, and a testament to the wildness and freedom of the horse that we all love.
