Torres Del Paine, Patagonia Chile, 2016
After a long hike through the night to the base of Torres del Paine, the granite spires slowly emerged from the thick mist as the first light of the day broke over the granite towers.
This photograph was made during my first journey to Patagonia in 2016 and it was my third time hiking to the base of these amazing towers. At the time, I was still early in my career, searching for my own voice as photographer and eager to explore a place few people had traveled to. It was first trip abroad and I wanted to go to Patagonia because the idea of it felt like the furthest place in the world to me. Sure enough, it exceeded every expectation. The scale of the mountains, the relentless weather, and the great beauty of the region left a lasting impression on me from the moment I arrived.
Over the years that followed, I would spend nearly half of every year exploring Patagonia. The region's wild weather, dramatic light, and vast landscapes taught me how to see as an artist. More than any other place, Patagonia trained my eye, teaching me patience, persistence, and how to recognize those fleeting moments when it all comes together.
In many ways, this image represents the beginning of that journey. Patagonia was the place that shaped me as a photographer and helped define the way I see the world. The lessons I learned here continue to influence every image I create, making this landscape an integral part of my story.
