On a trip to Mexico with my fiancée, we drove out deep into the mountainous jungle of Oaxaca in search of pristine rivers and waterfalls. Following an old dirt road for hours in the torrential rain we weren’t exactly sure of where we were going. We stopped in each little village to ask the locals if we were on the right track and every time, we were assured that we didn’t have much further to go up the road. The road we were following became skinnier, steeper, and muddier as the rain continued to flood down from the mountains. Our car struggled to get up the steep sections and slid through the mud on the downhills. We thought about turning back several times, until finally we had arrived to what was supposed to be the place! We grabbed our backpacks and headed down a trail from the road into the hot and humid jungle. The trail ended beneath a canopy of fragrant mango trees with a river running through it, full of natural infinity pools each cascading into one another. I instantly knew this was someplace special. We walked up through the shallow pools, even swimming at times, taking note of possible angles that could be explored through the lens. We then rounded a corner to a scene of serene beauty with divine pools and wandering vines coming down from the canopy. I knew instantly that this was my shot. I setup my tripod right in the middle of the river, everything drenched from the cool rain and captured this scene of incredible peace and tranquility.
